Customer Reviews

They have a vintage carved bar in the back with church pews as booths. Now to the food... Stopped for lunch and ordered the 2 meat platter of Brisket and Pulled Pork. Both had amazing flavor. So good that half way through, I realized that I had not even put their BBQ sauce on it. When I tried the original sauce on it, its more runny and found it soaking into the meats for an even deeper flavor. The sides are good and scratch made which you can tell with the first bite. I had the Bacon Mac and Baked Beans. They offer a full bar too. They also have a separate space for overflow and private parties. Looks like a stage and dartboard too for nightly entertainment.

This place is PHENOMENAL! I've never had pulled chicken with so much flavor (without even adding the sauce) in my life. I did end up adding the sweet BBQ , pickled onion and pickles. The fries were hot and crispy. My boyfriend got the chicken fried brisket special and he was very happy with his choice. He also got the bacon mac and cheese, and let me have a bite- and that too had a ton of flavor and was the perfect consistency. VERY, VERY HIGHLY recommend visiting here.

With my day in the books and after six laps around the aisles at 'Next Page Bookstore & More' that left my belly rumblin', just a squeal and a skip of a stone up the street, I strutted like a jowl slobberin' huntin' dog past the charming shops of 2nd St. towards the calling scents of smoked meats and all the fixins. With my mind set on a trio of flesh and two sides I settled in and took a gander at the setting for the slaughter that was to come. At the bar to my left were two men who looked like the front-ends of a pair of ol' Mack trucks, hulking and powerful, sturdy and well-fed. When you see men like that at a place like this, you can rest assured that you ain't gonna be leaving hungry. Across from them a bartender worked and chatted busily. Beyond her sat the kitchen to which I had a narrow view of the two butchers who were knifin' and saucin' and shootin' the shit before the dinner rush commenced. With my tea returned, and a brief consultation with the server, I put in my order of Texas brisket, jalapeno & cheddar sausage, pulled pork, potato salad, and to lighten things up a bit, an order of the southern slaw. I was also then assured the order came with two thick slices of white bread, homemade pickles and house-pickled red onions. As she walked away, I took note for the first time of the music playing in the dim-lit and dark-timbered room. An alt-rock playlist was grinding out Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" and no sooner than Chris Cornell's voice finished beckoning for his pain to be washed away, my paper-lined, intimidatingly large, silver tray of carnivorous gluttony arrived to wash away my hunger. Before I could tear in like a feral hog I was asked if I'd like the golden mustard and spicy bbq sauces in addition to the house sweet n' tangy and vinegar based ones that sat on the table. I nodded affirmatively and oink-snorted a yes. Don't threaten me with a good time or more sauces for my meats. With all my sauce options and ducks in a row I tore in with fork and fang and fingers. First, the jalapeno sausage that opened my sensory floodgates deliciously with a perfect snap and chew (for the ladies out there familiar with the "bend and snap" move from legally blonde, this is kind of like the BBQ equivalent for good sausage). Next, I squeezed out a dollop of the golden mustard style sauce onto a fistful of pulled pork, took a bite, and oink-snorted again. Then I piled another heap onto a bread slice, topped it with slaw, red onion and tangy house sauce and crammed it into my gullet. The pork, slaw, onion, and both sauce samplings were on point and melded together beautifully. I stuck my fork shovel next into the loaded potato salad like a man moving earth for gold as "Dig" by Incubus filled the airwaves. Tender chunks of potato, diced bacon, and fresh herbs then filled my stomach as my eyes turned to the brisket. The generous helping of beef was tender and juicy and paired well with both the vinegar based and spicy sauces. The fat cap was silky and melted on my tongue like a savory sugar. Nothing against this brisket, it was damn good by all measures, but, having been blessed by the BBQ Gods to have had some world-class brisket in Texas, this didn't quite stack up to the best of the best but didn't miss by a mile. After a few breathers and belches, I managed to work my way around the tray and chomp down all but a few scraps. As my server came to take away the tray she asked me sweetly if I was thinking about dessert. I oink-snort-chucklebelched this time, then told her I'd burst like the Johnstown Dam in 1889 if I had another bite. "You could take it to go. Have it when the waters recede a bit." She said with a smile. "Dammit, Debra, I reckon you're right. Blueberry crumble cheesecake it is then." As of this writing, nearly three hours later, I haven't gotten 'round to my styrofoam packaged dessert, but I feel confident in offering my final review because i'm sure it'll be delicious.

Had a nice dinner with my husband and some friends tonight. We had the fried pickles, pulled pork nachos, and pork rinds appetizers and they were all delicious. Then, my husband and I had their filet special. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the potatoes were delicious! I skipped dessert, but my husband had the bourbon pecan pie and loved it! Our service was great and the staff were all very friendly.
